How many calories are in kava?
Very few. A Kavayn Snap Pack contains 5 calories. Kava itself contributes almost nothing — kavalactones are active in milligram quantities — so whatever calories a kava drink carries come from what it is mixed with or sweetened with.
- Kavayn Snap Pack — 5 calories
- Traditionally strained root — negligible
- Kava mixed with juice or soda — mostly from the mixer
Compared with what it replaces. A standard glass of wine is around 120–130 calories and a pint of beer around 180–200. That comparison is why the question gets asked — people substituting kava for an evening drink want to know whether they are trading one calorie load for another. At 5 calories a serving, they are not.
The mixer is where the real decision happens. A kava serving built with pineapple juice carries the juice's calories. Built with soda water and a squeeze of lime, it carries almost none. If calories matter to you, the mixer is the variable — not the kava.
Kava has no alcohol in it, which is worth noting since a meaningful share of a drink's calories usually comes from the alcohol itself.
